District 279 is a vibrant and growing district located directly northwest of Minneapolis. It is now the state’s fifth largest
school district with land area of 66 square miles encompassing all or part of the communities of Osseo, Maple Grove,
Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center, Plymouth, Corcoran, Dayton, and Hassen. These communities are a combination of both
suburban and rural clientele.
School
Maple Grove Senior High School, which opened in 1996, is one of three senior high schools that serve over 21,000 students
in District 279. The district also includes four junior high schools, 17 elementary schools, and one area learning center. In
2010-2011, there will be more than 1733 students enrolled in grades 10-12 at Maple Grove Senior High. In the fourteen
years of its existence, Maple Grove Senior High has established a reputation as a school that holds all students to high
standards. Unique to Maple Grove Senior High is Foundations, an advisory program with four specific goals:
- Foster a safe, respectful, productive environment where people are valued and supported;
- Encourage personal and social responsibility by expecting honesty, integrity and hard work;
- Challenge students through rigorous and relevant learning experiences with measurable results;
- Inspire students to be lifelong learners.
